Every animal we take in has a special place in our hearts andsome end up staying with us for one reason or another. We take our time getting to know each one of the animals and teaching them that not all humans are going to abuse, abandon, neglect, or harm them. It takes time to earn trust from an animal, it is a privilege not a "given". This takes a lot of patience and an undetermined amount of time. In some cases, because of their past, an animal will bond with one person and not allow another to approach them; for this reason SRR may become their forever home. Nevertheless each animal that comes here is given as much love & time as they need to heal physically and mentally. Ideally we would like all of these rescue animals to experience what their life should be whether it be here or with their new forever family.
If you are seriously interested in an animal you see listed on this page or would like to have a meet/greet please email us at smithrescueranch@yahoo.com. We will get back to you as soon as possible to answer questions & make arrangements. There will be prerequisites that must be agreed upon & met before any animal is placed with it's new family.
SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY PLEASE Thank you!

We are downsizing our horses & llamas this Spring & Summer 2010, if you'd like to know what we have available please feel free to contact us.
**A little about llamas: Llamas are fantastic guardians for other livestock. They will deter coyotes, foxes and stray dogs. Some of our llamas will be awesome for livestock guardians, the small/young ones can become awesome 4-H llamas, and/or companion pets. Their hair (fiber) may also be used to make yarn! Male Llamas may not be gelded until they are 18 months of age. If they are gelded at an earlier age it will lead to medical problems for them.

1. My life is likely to last 10-15+ years depending on what type of animal I am. Any separation from you is likely to be painful for me.
2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.
4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.
5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words I do understand your voice when speaking to me.
6. Be aware that however you treat me I will never forget it.
7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you and yet I choose not to.
8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food , I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.
9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too will grow old.
10. On the ultimate difficult journey go with me please. Never say you can't bear to watch. Don't make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there because I love you so.
Take a moment today to thank God for your pets. Enjoy and take good care of them. Life would be a much duller, less joyful experience without God's creatures. Now please pass this on to other animal owners. We do not have to wait for Heaven to be surrounded by hope, love and joyfulness. It is here on Earth and has two or four legs!
A thousand horse & none to ride! - With flowing tail, & flying mane, Wide nostrils never stretched by pain, Mouths bloodless to the bit or rein, & feet that iron never shod, & flanks unscarred by spur or rod, A thousand horse, the wild, the free, Like waves that follow o'er the sea, Came thickly thundering on,...~Lord Byron, XVII, Mazeppa, 1818
You as an animal owner/caretaker are obligated by the law to provide food/water, shelter and medical treatment for me. If you cannot do these things for me please find someone that can and will. Thank you!
